Behind the Seams
The Kintura Collection
There’s nothing worse than kit that rides up, slips down, or distracts you halfway through a workout. That’s exactly what Kintura was designed to combat. Designed for athletes who want support without bulk, and performance without compromise, the range has quickly become a staple for training, racing, and everything in between for the hybrid athlete. I caught up with Andi, our head of product, to talk all things Kintura, including fabrics, favourite pieces, and why sometimes less really is more.
Est: For anyone new to the range, how would you describe the Kintura material?
Andi: The kintura material is high power, meaning it has a higher elastane content to support the athletes wearing it, as well as hold its shape and stay put. It has a matte feel that is light and supportive but works WITH the wearer.
Est: What makes Kintura fabric so special?
Andi: Kintura is a high quality French material. It gives support with 30% elastane, but is also light and flexible, so it moves with the athlete.
Est: How do you balance performance, comfort and style when designing the collection?
Andi: Kintura is really about performance and comfort, we minimize bulk and work to eliminate any irritating features like squeezing or chaffing. We remove excessive features and focus on what matters: 1 pocket, added security, and a waistband that stays put.
Est: What details or features do you think people might overlook, but make a big difference?
Andi: These pieces are sleek and flattering, and most importantly they perform. The quality of the Kintura material is not to be missed!!
Est: What has been the response from customers so far, and what feedback has influenced the range?
Andi: Fit is one of our biggest focuses with all our products, but specifically Kintura. Making sure we make all adjustments necessary to keep the leggings from riding down and shorts from riding up as well as making sure there is enough support in the bras without them being too restrictive or ‘squashing’.
Est: As the Kintura range grows, what can people expect to see from the line in the future?
Andi: There is a lot of feedback around pocket placement preference (as well as quantity of pockets) but after polling our community we stuck to a single side pocket: enough storage for what you need for hybrid training or the occasional 5-10k. We want to reduce unnecessary bulk and features that aren't helpful.
Est: What’s your favourite new Kintura piece that’s coming, and why are you excited about it?
Andi: I cannot wait for our new Kintura bras to launch! We have two new silhouettes, one more supportive and a long line silhouette… both also have a phone pocket!
Est: If someone could only start with one Kintura item, which would you recommend and why?
Andi: If you want an intro into Kintura I suggest going with the 5”short, it's a staple in our teams wardrobe and a perfect style for summer to pair with anything. Also easy to wear to/from the gym/training. It’s true; the 5” Kintura shorts are a staple amongst the team (I’m wearing them as I write this!). So from the team-favourite 5" shorts to the soon-to-launch bras, Kintura is all about the details you notice when they’re missing… waistbands that stay put, support that doesn’t squeeze, and pockets that actually make sense. Built with feedback from the WIT community and designed to keep up with every session, Kintura is proof that performance kit can look good AND work hard. And with more styles on the way, there’s plenty more to get excited about. I’d keep your eyes peeled for a new launch VERY soon.
