A coach, an athlete, an inspiration.
“Being born with one leg, I was at quite a disadvantage in most sports,” says Tyler Saunders. It’s a statement grounded in reality, but it’s far from the end of his story. For Tyler, training became the way to take control of his limitations, proving to himself and others that ability is defined not by circumstances, but by mindset.
It wasn’t until Tyler discovered wheelchair basketball that his perspective on sport began to shift. He threw himself into the sport, training hard and eventually reaching the elite level, representing Team GB. That experience was a catalyst—it showed him what was possible when he pushed beyond perceived limitations and committed to challenging himself.
From there, training became more than just a personal pursuit—it became a mission. “One of my mottos at the time was making fitness a possibility for all abilities.” Tyler went on to develop himself as a fitness coach, helping people of all backgrounds and abilities challenge themselves to move, train, and thrive. His coaching is built on the principle that showing up is half the battle: “Motivation isn’t something you should just wait for. Even if you don’t feel 100%, sometimes just showing up and doing the little you can is enough.”
Today he helps thousands of people to get involved in training, despite their limitations, fears and challenges. In a world where barriers—real or perceived—often hold people back, Tyler is proof that those obstacles can be overcome. His work has empowered countless individuals to stop focusing on limitations, to trust in the process, and to find strength they never thought possible.
But Tyler’s achievements as an athlete are a testament to his determination to overcome physical challenges as well. He has pushed past obstacles to compete in functional fitness events—inspiring both disabled and able-bodied individuals to challenge themselves, step into the gym, and discover what they’re capable of. He hopes they take away one simple message: “If he’s doing it, I can do it as well.”
Whether he’s competing, coaching, or simply sharing his story, Tyler inspires people to challenge themselves in the same way. Tyler’s story reminds us that training doesn’t just build strength—it builds confidence, resilience, and possibility. And no matter who you are or where you start, those are tools you can take into every aspect of life.
